Guide to Coaching Resistance Training
Have you ever wondered:
- How can I write workout programs for myself or the athletes I train?
- Why aren't they able to understand and perform the cues I'm giving them?
- Where do I go from here?
Then this course is for you.
In this course, I give a full lecture on the basics of programming, teaching, and progressing from one phase to the next. I also give in provide a full master class video series on how to coach the following lifts:
- 6 Squat Variations
- Back, front, zercher, goblet, pistol, and skater
- (Trap Bar) Deadlift
- Bench Press
- RDL and how to teach the hinge
- Power Clean
- Overhead Press
- Push Jerks/Presses
- Chinups (and the best way to help someone get their first chinup)
- Rows
For more complex lifts, I show you how I use my "learning sets" to teach the lifts. Have you ever given an athlete a cue, and they turn and look at you like a deer in the headlights? It's because they probably think they are doing what you're telling them to do already. They don't know how to move differently and do it how you're asking them to.
Learning sets fix this problem. Learning sets are complexes of exercises that are designed to take the cues that you give while coaching and turn them into actual exercises. This allows the athletes to learn what it actually feels like to do what you're asking. If you're familiar with principles of motor learning, this is part/whole practice that removes the complexity of trying to execute while performing the overall movement. Only practicing one cue allows them to focus on, and master, just one portion of the lift before trying to integrate it into the entire movement.
If you work with novices, the course will help you. Regardless if you're a middle/high school strength coach, college strength coach, or a personal trainer that works with people of differing levels of experience, every coach needs a solid toolbox with techniques for training beginners.
Whether you have multiple degrees and certifications in strength and conditioning or if you're a coach that's just trying to figure it out to help their team, I try to explain all of this information at a level that anyone can understand. That being said, head coaches are busy. If you feel like you need to streamline the process of implementing all of this information in a way that fits your time and facility constraints, I offer a package deal that includes a 1 hour consultation call for 50% my regular rates. Whether you want me to help you put the pieces together or you want me to review your rough draft and help you maximize what you're doing, I'm here to help.
